Talking Breads
Thursday, March 30
Since Christoph and I are not on vacation here in Athens, but work from Monday to Friday from our home office as usual in our jobs, we only have time for larger excursion in and around Athens on weekends. During the weekdays we like to go for a walk in the evening and explore the many small streets in our neighbourhood. We often find great cafes and restaurants that we really want to try.
Now that we’ve been here for a few weeks, I’ve found my absolute favorite café, which I go to several times a week. On the way there, Christoph and I always pass a small burger shop that looks like high-quality products and calls itself “Talking Breads”. The restaurant’s logo glows in red and white, and both the design and the burger joint’s name are a nod to the album True Stories by ’70s rock band Talking Heads. Because we usually stop by here in the afternoon on the way to our favorite café, but the restaurant only opens in the evening, we have only experienced the “Talking Breads” closed so far. So today we had decided to come back for dinner!
The very small restaurant consists of a kitchen and a counter where you place your order and pay. Tables and chairs are only outside on the street. Although the restaurant mainly has different burgers and fries on the menu, it is more than a classic chain fast food restaurant. The different types of bread are all baked on site and only freshly topped when ordered. We were absolutely thrilled and were almost annoyed that we hadn’t been here earlier. If you fancy a fresh, high-quality burger and a huge portion of fries, you should definitely have dinner here on your next trip to Athens!
