The most famous place in Antigua, Guatemala is the bright yellow arch in the center of the city. The arch is officially called “Arco de Santa Catalina” and was built in the 17th century.
Dobladas

Although Guatemala shares a border with Mexico, the street food culture in Guatemala is not as strong as in Mexico. Unlike in Mexico, there are almost no street food stands here. But we did find one stand: This stand sold typical Guatemalan "Dobladas".
Chicken Bus

No matter where you are in Guatemala, both in the big cities and in the small villages near Lake Átitlan, you can see huge, brightly painted buses driving through the streets. These buses are affectionately called "chicken buses" and are used as public transport.
Rincón Antigüeño

In the city center of Antigua there are many restaurants serving a variety of international cuisines, such as Arabic food, Vietnamese Pho, classic French cuisine and there are also some US-American fast food chains. Because Christoph and I were in Guatemala for the first time ever of course we wanted to try the local Guatemalan cuisine first.

Guatemala is internationally known for its large number of abandoned Mayan ruins in the jungle. Some of the ruins are over 2000 years old! What many people in Europe and the USA do not know, however, is that the Mayan people are not extinct. The Mayans are still a group of indigenous peoples living in Mexico and Central America today.
