Florencia y Fortunata

Our all time favorite coffee place in Cusco (perhaps in all of Peru!) is “Florencia y Fortunata”. This beautiful café is located on a small side street, somewhat tucked away in the courtyard of a historic house in Cusco.

We discovered the café quite by chance while strolling through the city’s small streets. We immediately noticed the beautifully designed logo and the sign pointing the way from the street to the café. To enter the courtyard and thus the café, you cross the small hallway and continue straight ahead until you reach a small, bright room, the café. On the right there is the counter, on the left are the tables, and at the back of the room, a beautiful stone staircase leads up to the gallery, from where you can overlook the small café from above. Just like the logo, the café's interior is very well designed, with the furniture and tableware harmoniously chosen. “Florencia y Fortunata” is hip and modern, yet very cozy at the same time. The open stone walls, the stone staircase, and the wood of the furniture and the gallery give this place a very warm feel. Aside from the great interior design, we were especially impressed by the excellent coffee here! There was always a variety of different beans to choose from with different flavour profiles. The truly special thing about “Florencia y Fortunata”, however, wasn’t the high quality coffee, but rather that the café’s mission to only use beans from female coffee farmers. The café is committed to equal fair pay for female coffee farmers and wants to help them gain more visibility. Whenever you order a coffee at Florencia y Fortunata, they’ll tell you exactly where the coffee comes from and which coffee farmer grew the beans. Christoph and I were thrilled to have found such a great café and happily came back again and again to enjoy a wonderful cappuccino and support Peruvian female coffee farmers at the same time.
