Bar Aliatar

On one of our many afternoon walks through the city of Granada, we discovered the “Bar Aliatar”, a bit hidden in a small street. The term “bar” in Spain does not necessarily mean that only alcoholic drinks are sold there. “Bar” in Spain can mean anything from café, bistro, restaurant to bar. Although Bar Aliatar also sells drinks, it is primarily a sandwich shop.

The space at Bar Aliatar is decorated quite minimalistically. In the center of the room is the large metal bar counter and many bar stools. An oversized menu with all the different sandwich the bar offers hangs on the wall above the visitors’ heads. You can choose from a wide variety of Iberian ham, meat, sausage, various types of cheese, Spanish potato tortilla and even hummus and falafel as toppings. The huge selection of different sandwiches made from amazing Spanisch Baguette bread makes it really difficult to decide. Luckily, Bar Aliatar also offers different sizes of sandwiches. This means you can easily order several smaller sandwiches and gradually eat your way through the menu. Christoph and I came here quite often – sometimes for a quick breakfast, sometimes for an afternoon snack, sometimes for dinner. And everything we ever ordered there tasted amazing!
