Bay windows in Granada
Saturday, August 12
During our time in Granada we discovered and visited many great tapas bars, restaurants and sights in the city. Still, one of our favorite things to do was to just take a stroll through the many little streets of Granada.
Although the city has around 230,000 inhabitants, at least the city center of Granada is manageable and is just the right size so that you never get bored, but the city is also not too big and confusing.
For me, Granada is so special because of the architecture and the many beautiful tiny streets in the city centre. In some parts of the city, the influence of Spain’s Arab period (approximately from 711 to 1492) can still be clearly seen. Many houses are decorated with Moroccan tiles that have the most beautiful colorful patterns. Larger houses often have their own courtyards with gardens or fountains, where the heat of Granada can be endured well, even in summer. I find the wooden balconies/bay windows that you see on practically every corner in Granada particularly impressive.
So if you have a free afternoon in Granada, it’s nice to simply stroll through the winding streets of the city center and admire the many gorgeous houses and Arabic buildings.
