Fonda Margarita
Saturday, October 7
Wandering through our neighborhood in Mexico City we discovered this small, traditional Mexican restaurant which even was close to our apartment. “Fonda Margarita” is a family-run restaurant. The family opened their first restaurant in the city of Puebla but now also has two restaurants in Mexico City where they serve traditional Mexican food. While strolling through our neighborhood, we particularly noticed this restaurant because it was always packed with people and seemed to be particularly popular with Mexican families.
During the next month we spent in Mexico City, we came here frequently because this restaurant was a great place to eat all the classic Mexican dishes. Like the popular Mexican breakfast “Chilaquiles Verdes” (fried corn tortillas with a fresh, sour sauce made from tomatillos, topped with cheese and a fried egg) or my favorite lunch ever “Enchiladas tricolores” (corn tortillas stuffed with chicken, covered with three kinds of spicy sauces and Mexican cheese as a topping). On each of our visits we were the only non-Mexican guests and each time we were looked at curiously but were always treated very nicely. And no matter what we ordered, every dish was incredibly delicious. If we ever make it back to Mexico City (which we will!) we are definitely having lunch at this place.
