Barranco

The city of Lima is a huge city with millions of inhabitants and consists of 43 districts. The individual districts are very different in terms of architecture, infrastructure and safety. Christoph and I visited a lot of districts during our stay and regularly visited friends in the very south or north of the city. This time we decided to rent an apartment in the more touristy district of Barranco, as there are many cute cafes and restaurants here and you can walk straight to the sea.

Barranco is considered the cultural center of Lima because there are a lot of small galleries, historic buildings, and bars and clubs. Barranco is probably where most cultural events take place. There are concerts here regularly (both by street musicians and in clubs and bars), flea markets, organic food markets and other types of events. At the same time, the Barranco district is considered very safe and you can take a quiet walk, relax in the park or walk the many steps all the way down to the sea. There is always something going on in Barranco and yet it never feels too crowded. We rented an apartment in Barranco so that we could quickly get to the sea after work in the late afternoon, relax in the park or have a lovely coffee shop right in front of the house. We really enjoyed our time in Barranco and would come back here again and again.
