Rima Rima
Friday, January 26
Nowadays Peru is internationally known for its amazing food. Food is very important in Peruvian culture and Peruvians are understandably proud of the many delicious dishes and ingredients, fruit and veggies that the country has to offer.
Especially in big cities like Lima, there are countless restaurants, cafés and street food stalls. So many that it's hard to choose where to eat. In January 2024, Christoph and I arrived back in Lima after being in Germany for 7 years so we were happy to see our good friend Carmen again after all this time. To celebrate this special day, I wanted to invite her to lunch in our neighborhood Barranco. As it was a special location I didn’t want to have lunch from a street food stall but looked for a nice local restaurant that served classic Peruvian cuisine. After exploring our neighborhood a bit, I spontaneously decided on the "Rima Rima" restaurant, which is located in a small side street in Barranco, and reserved a table for Christoph, Carmen and me there. A week later we met Carmen in the restaurant. Because we hadn't seen each other for years, there was a lot to talk about and it took a while before we even had the time to study the menu and to order. In the end, we ordered Peruvian classics: “Lomo Saltado” (spicy fried beef, tomato and onion stir fry with rice and potatoes) for Carmen and “Fetucchine con Salsa Huancaina y Lomo saltado” (pasta in Peruvian chili cheese sauce with beef, tomato and onion stir fry) for Christoph and me. The portions were huge, the dishes were seasoned just right and the beef was cooked perfectly. Christoph and I had eaten these dishes many times before in a lot of different restaurants in Peru, but nowhere before or after the “Lomo Saltado” was cooked as perfectly as “Rima Rima” did it. We were all impressed and happy to now know this great restaurant.
A few weeks later, on our last evening in Lima, Christoph and I wanted to have dinner at “Rima Rima” again for the last time. I also had to take the final sketchbook photo for my sketchbook project, but when we arrived to the restaurant, unfortunately it was closed that evening. That's why the sketchbook photo is unfortunately a bit dark because I had to take it in front of the closed door of the restaurant in the rather dark street. According to Google the restaurants remains open so it was closed just this one evening. We are already looking forward to eating there again some day in the future!
