Costa Verde

At the beginning of January we flew from San José in Costa Rica to Lima, Peru. Peru and Lima were particularly important places for me on our trip, as I used to live and work in Lima for 12 months a few years ago. Thanks to that time, I know Lima very well and still have many friends there today. When we landed at Lima airport and took a taxi from the airport to our Airbnb, it felt like coming home for me. It took a few more days before I could really realize that I had finally returned to my beloved city of Lima.

In January it is summer in Lima and the sun shines every day. So after work and on the weekend Christoph and I went for a lot of walks outside. Because the city of Lima is right on the Pacific coast, it is fortunately always pleasantly windy near the coast, even in summer. We rented an apartment in Barranco, my favorite neighborhood in Lima, and were able to walk from our apartment to the coast in just 15 minutes, from where we had a beautiful view of the sea. There is a cliff between the beaches and the buildings of the city. The city itself is located several meters above the sea. Some of the cliffs are covered with lush green plants, which is why this part of the coast is also called the "Costa Verde" (= Green Coast). Since we wanted to make the most of our time in Lima, we walked to the Costa Verde almost every day and watched the sea and the many surfers. Although the city of Lima is many meters above sea level, in some places there are also stairs that lead from the city down to the beach. If watching the sea from above is not enough for you, you can also walk down to the sea and sit directly on the pebble beach and enjoy a cold soda and listen to the sound of the waves.
