Inca Kola
Saturday, January 6

If you go to any supermarket, kiosk or restaurant in Peru, it is very likely that you will see bottles of different sizes filled with a bright yellow liquid. This bright yellow soda is called "Inca Kola" and is probably the most popular drink among Peruvians. Inca Kola has been produced and sold in Peru since 1935 and is still the only soft drink that has a larger market share in Peru than Coca Cola. The carbonated drink „Inca Kola“ is made from lemon verbena, among other things, and has a lemony, fresh, vanilla-like taste - but mainly tastes very sweet.
Many people who try this beverage for the first time also describe the taste as "bubblegum-like". Inca Kola is the most popular drink in Peru and all of my Peruvian friends love it. Peruvians especially like to drink it alongside the Peruvian national dish "ceviche". A fresh dish made from fish, lime and lemon.
Personally, I really like that unique taste of Inca Kola, but I find it way too sweet. And yet, for me, every trip to Peru includes drinking at least one glass of cold Inca Kola!
