Siamo nel Forno

If you walk through the streets of Buenos Aires, you'll immediately notice the many ice cream parlors and pizzerias. This is no coincidence, but rather a result of Argentina's history and the country's population. Approximately 30-50% of the Argentine population has Italian roots.
In Buenos Aires, you'll find countless ice cream parlors selling (Italian) gelato. This is creamy ice cream that's spooned onto a cone instead of being scooped like in Germany. Most Argentinians we spoke to said that Argentinian ice cream is, of course, completely different and much better than Italian ice cream. We sampled the city's various ice cream parlors and found it tasted like very good Italian ice cream.
In addition to the many ice cream parlors in the city, there are almost as many Italian pizzerias. Neapolitan pizza seems to be particularly popular here, as it is in Berlin and Hamburg right now. In contrast to the flatter, crispy crust of Roman pizza, Neapolitan pizza is characterized by a thicker, softer yeast dough crust. After living in Italy for a month, we were eager to eat a good Italian pizza again after traveling months through South America. We booked a table at what was supposedly the best pizzeria in Buenos Aires and ordered two Neapolitan pizzas. A short time later, when the pizzas were brought to our table, we felt like we were back in Italy for a brief moment. The pizzas looked perfect and tasted incredibly good—just like in Italy! Since we only spent a few weeks in Buenos Aires, we unfortunately only visited this pizzeria once. If we lived here permanently, this pizzeria would definitely be one of our favorite restaurants in the city!
